Meet your therapist, Angela

I’ve been working as a licensed therapist for over a decade in both individual and group therapy practices. My early career started with a focus on children and families, spending a lot of time on the floor during play therapy sessions and conducting couples work with parents long before I became one myself!

I am a depth‑oriented therapist with a contemporary psychoanalytic lens, which means I pay close attention to the emotional patterns, protective strategies, and early relational experiences that still shape how you move through the world. My work centers emotional safety and self‑compassion, especially for parents who are carrying guilt, overwhelm, or the weight of unrealistic expectations. Together, we slow down, make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface, and create new ways of relating to yourself that feel grounded, spacious, and genuinely yours.

My style is warm, reflective, and collaborative, helping you build a more compassionate story about yourself and the life you’re creating. I’m also a born & raised New Yorker; so direct and loving firmness is a part of who I am in my approach, particularly in my work with couples. You will hear “I’m going to stop you there” and “How is that helpful or therapeutic”? I will follow up & embody an accountability partnership.

I will not assign you worksheets or move the work through a manual. There may be meaningful choices I will give for you to explore in between sessions or particular risks I encourage you to take. I might send you an article or particular podcast that made me think of you and what you’re experiencing. You will be on my mind.

This is slow, sacred work.

I completed a Perinatal Mental Health course through Postpartum Support International and partnered with a birth center to provide comprehensive mental health care for families across the perinatal journey of pregnancy, postpartum, fertility, loss, and early parenthood who are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, or the weight of new emotional and relational demands.

After becoming a Mother in 2021, this is where my work focuses now. My goal is to provide a soft place for you to land in your Motherhood and parenthood journey.

Let’s begin!

“Let Motherhood change you. Let Fatherhood change you. You are allowed to grow & change during your time of conceiving, birthing and raising children. This is a ripe time for personal development.” - Angela Bianco Smith, LCSW
